Welcome to Quirky Crafts Challenges

Welcome to Quirky Crafts Challenges the place where any craft project is allowed.

We're a small design team with big inspiration.

On the first Sunday of the month, at 6pm UK time, we will set a new challenge which will close on the 28th of that month at midday. The DT will pick their top three favourites and you could win a prize and join us as a Guest Designer. Winners are posted on the first Sunday in the month (midday usually) before the new challenge - don't forget to come and check if you are a winner.

Challenge #2: Quirky Pets

Hello there it is Tinz here with your new challenge at our re-vamped Quirky Challenge Blog. It is a pleasure to be working with these lovely ladies and we would love to see more of our fans joining in with us again – so let your friends know we are back :D. We also have a new DT member to share with you – please welcome Susan to the Quirky Challenge DT!

To see who won the last challenge see the previous post below this one.
As it is Pet Owner’s day on 18th April I decided to go for a quirky pets theme. For this we want to see either unusual pets, or pets doing unusual things. Our lovely sponsor for this challenge is

 The Cutting Cafe

They provide cutting files as well as digi stamps, so 3D creations are a doddle with these files. Please feel free to use these for whatever craft medium you are comfortable with.

Here is some inspiration from the DT:

Not here due to personal problems, well here in the background but not created any projects.

From Tinz's choice I have selected some one of the images from the animals and bugs set...they are all so cute. I decided to make a door hanging for a child.

I designed a box frame sized to suit using Silhouette Studio and cut the pieces using my Cameo. I also made the lettering that way.
I took the image I had chosen into Craft Artist, resized it and printed multiple copies which I then cut out using my Scan and Cut.
I coloured the images using LePlume pens and decoupaged them up to give dimension.

I thought a snail would be a particularly quirky creature to have as a pet!  This little fellow and the sentiment came from the Animals and Bug Love Set.  I've layered it up with lots of snippets left from one of the free paper stacks that came with a magazine several years ago. I coloured the snail in with Promarkers then made the shell dotty by dabbing a Promarkers blender pen over it, to go with the dotty background paper.

I decided that a pink elephant would be suitably quirky! I coloured him with Promarkers and also round the edge of the frame. Mounted the image onto a scrap of black card and set it at a jaunty angle. The backing paper was some from a Simon Says Stamp card kit last year, thought the black and white doodles looked good against the pink.

I used the spider shaker card cutting set. As I do not own a Cricut or similar I simply printed out the template and made the card from this. I stamped the sentiment onto the tummey before making the shaker card and added bat sequins for the shake element.

Any crafty project is acceptable as usual. Important: BEFORE you link up please add a link to the Quirky Crafts Challenges blog  to your post - or you will not be able to enter. Linking will allow you to continue, and will record your entry, (if you don't add the Quirky crafts link as above your entry goes into the moderation queue and will not be approved until you add that link - if we have time to check)!

If you don't have a blog and your link is not accepted look at this: http://blog.inlinkz.com/2013/12/uploading-linkup-links-even-when-the-remote-host-does-not-allow-viewing-the-images/
If you do not have a blog (or inlinkz will not accept your non blog link) you can also email your entry to us via the sidebar link. Good luck!

Please leave us a comment after you have linked your creation.
